Microblading is a form of tattoo artistry whereby coloured pigment is implanted into the top dermal layer of the skin with a hand-held tool with a blade. Unlike block pigmentation that tattooing gives, Microblading creates a fine hair stroke that flows with existing brow hair.
The process begins with a 30 minute pre-treatment consultation to take the client through the Microblading process, colour of suggested pigmentation, to ascertain if there’s a medical condition to be taken into consideration, and to patch test. If the patch test reaction is negative and the client decides to go ahead with the treatment a two hour appointment is booked. On the day of treatment the client is asked to attend make-up free and then is prepped for the treatment. Anaesthetic cream is applied to the client and after 30 minutes the brow shape is measured and determined with a pencilled outline drawn. The client is then shown the suggested template and any amendments can be made at this stage. The blading process takes about 20 to 25 minutes and the sensation is similar to a little scratch but there should not be any discomfort. As with the permanent make-up treatment the area will look 40-50% darker than the colour that has been chosen in the consultation, but this will fade within 3-4 days to reveal their chosen colour. The client is given comprehensive aftercare advice regarding infection control and the healing process. The treated brows will need to heal and scab over taking approximately 2 to 3 week to heal. After approximately 6 to 8 weeks the client is asked to book an appointment for assessment of colour and pigment top up if needed. The pigment tends to fade after 12 to 18 months and it’s suggested that the client returns for a Microblading re-application.
